In the fall of my junior year, I moved out of the dorms and into an apartment. While I was excited to have my own space (read: a private bathroom), it was the first time I had to furnish an entire apartment—on a college student budget. I ended up designing and creating a lot of the furniture and décor, starting with this coffee table.
This table is for people who spend much of their time at home in their living/family room. I’m definitely one of those people, and I keep everything from books to nail polish in my living room. With a traditional coffee table, there’s no way to store all of your belongings in an uncluttered and functional way. Furthermore, the coffee table is a centerpiece of the living room: it needs to look good.
I wanted the coffee table to be simple, attractive, and practical. I envisioned clean lines, rectangular shapes, earthy colors, and symmetrical design. After getting some Pinterest inspiration, I decided to build the table out of wooden crates. I then started to build.
